Electrical and Instrumentation Engineer – Derbyshire - Contract

This is where you come in:


Due to the rapid expansion of Costain’s business both within the UK and internationally we have a requirement for an E&I Engineer to support our expanding Engineering team. You will provide hands-on experience in project execution from conceptual design, feasibility studies and front-end design activities to detailed design, installation and commissioning.


Key responsibilities will include:

  • The E&I Engineer should be familiar with applicable European and International standards (e.g. IEC, ANSI, NEMA, API, etc) and their application
  • Liaise with the Design Manager, Quality Advisor and other personnel appointed to the project to co-ordinate resources
  • Prepare progress reports to the Project Manager and project planner for inclusion into main programme
  • Attend meetings as required and provide reports on project compliance issues.
  • Work with the Design Coordinator and Project Engineers to assist with evaluations of submitted designs and check compliance with current specifications / standards and all relevant legislation.
  • Check and review the design of communications and control systems and components.
  • Prepare and review Instrument and equipment schedules, termination diagrams, block cable diagrams, routing diagrams, loop drawings and site layouts.
  • Complete intrinsic safety assessments, safety integrity calculations and assessments and cause and effects diagrams
  • Participate in HAZOP, CHAZOP , SIL, Safe Working Design, Fire Safety Assessments
  • Preparation of specifications and data sheets for instrumentation
  • Review vendor drawings, technical bids and factory inspection tests
  • Prepare and review of technical specifications, requisitions and cost estimates
  • Prepare schedules and work procedures
  • Prepare the scope of work and Inspection and Test plans for all instrumentation sub-systems
  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of project databooks.
  • Maintain and assist in the continuous improvement of the company Quality Management system.
  • Assist in design review by implementing Process Safety initiatives.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Evidence of experience of major UK multi-disciplinary construction projects
  • Has worked on Compressor, Terminal, offshore or process plant shutdowns and upgrade programs
  • Rotating machinery, gas turbine and VSD experience advantageous
  • Member of or working towards accreditation by a professional institute
  • Has understanding of QMS requirements
  • Knowledge of control, protection, fire and gas detection systems essential
  • Knowledge of Ethernet/IP, ControlNet, MODBUS and Profibus advantageous
  • Aware of the requirements of the implementation of Safety Integrity Levels, DSEAR / ATEX legislation, hazardous area classification and BSEN 60079
  • Computer literate, good communication and report writing skills

Qualifications:

  • Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering with a minimum of five years oil, gas or process industry experience
  • HNC or equivalent qualified In Electrical Engineering with a minimum of seven years oil, gas or process industry experience
  • Holds a Current EUSR safety passport
  • Good knowledge of MS Office software packages. Sharepoint knowledge desirable.
  • Full UK Driving License
