This is where you come in:

Due to current development and growth of Rhead Group’s Defence Business Unit, we are currently looking to recruit a Commercial / Supply Chain Consultant. As the company expands, the commercial aspects of our client’s portfolio of projects and programmes is becoming an integral part of our delivery capability. We therefore need to add to our consultant resource pool to meet forecast demand in this domain.

You must be self-motivated, disciplined and commercially astute with the ability to identify, analyse and develop responses to commercial risks. Excellent communication and client facing skills are a must, along with working as part of a team promoting our culture and values. You will consider problems as a challenge, collect information relevant to the problem, be disciplined in ascertaining the root cause, identify and develop a practical solution, communicate the findings and implement action to resolve the problem.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Management of key stakeholders and clients
  • Management of several client engagements at the same time
  • Identify areas of improvement within the procurement and supply chain functions
  • Lead the delivery of strategic Commercial (Supply Chain) transformation projects
  • Preparing tender and contract documents between the client and relevant supply chains
  • Undertaking costs analysis
  • Responsible for all contractual and regulatory issues within the Procurement/Supply chain function
  • Accountable for ensuring procurement spend is contracted utilising the appropriate contractual frameworks
  • Assisting in establishing a client’s requirements and undertaking feasibility studies
  • Performing risk and value management
  • Advising on procurement strategy
  • Identifying, analysing and developing responses to commercial risks
  • Providing advice on contractual claims
  • Analysing outcomes and writing detailed progress reports
  • Valuing completed work and arranging payments
  • Provide compliance matrices to communicate commercial position post negotiation and all risk exposure


  • Relevant degree qualification
  • Relevant professional membership(s) such as Member of Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply (CIPS)

Knowledge / Skills / Behaviours:

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience within the commercial supply chain environment
  • Experience of government and defence acquisition lifecycle from an industry and client perspective
  • Experience in managing teams, providing support and guidance
  • Experience within supply chain development and rationalisation
  • Dispute resolution experience
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Good time management and organisational skills
  • Confident and resilient
  • Experience of writing supply chain contracting processes
  • Experience of generating negotiation options on key clauses
  • Maintaining awareness of the different contract types in current use, such as NEC3
