Project Controls Consultant – Defence - Nationwide

Due to the rapid expansion of Rhead Group’s business both within the UK and internationally we have a requirement for Project Controls Consultants to join our team.

The Project Control Consultant will deliver strategic and operational project controls consultancy, including training services, to assigned clients. The role is high profile and both inward and outward facing; undertaking complex planning activity whilst assisting the up-skilling of client teams through proactive knowledge transfer.

The Project Controls Consultant thoroughly understands customising to ensure “fit for purpose”, improving and training the Planning & Project Controls team on the use of the processes prescribed by Rhead Group. The Project Controls Consultant will also explore opportunities for Business Development, and will be responsible for generating additional client commissions through business relationships.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Provide Project Controls Consultancy on site with clients, including Baseline Schedule development and management, Performance Status and Reporting, Baseline Change Control, Risk Management, Earned Value Management, Programme Controls Management System (PCMS) processes, guidance and tools
  • Advise and consult on the application of effective planning techniques and controls (Earned Value, Cost and Schedule Variance, Estimates at Completion, Critical Path Analysis)
  • Develop and implement requirements for project planning, cost recording, reporting, and analysis
  • Support and advise on the definition of Project Controls and Earned Value Management policies, procedures and the standards required to deliver projects
  • Support programme integration, governance, formats, plan optimisation, and Project Controls best practices
  • Support the deployment of Project Controls Processes across the breadth of the portfolio
  • Champion the development of Project Controls and to ensure the application of Project Controls processes are consistently applied
  • Administer governance to ensure robust cost and schedule performance for the agreed Scope of Work across programmes is managed on site
  • Keep abreast of current and new Project Control techniques, technologies and initiatives
  • Maintain ongoing development and delivery of a co-ordinated change agenda for business improvement
  • Monitor and control programme compliance in respect of our contractual obligations
  • Influence clients to implement suggestions for exposure/risk reduction
  • Build and maintain mutually beneficial relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • React to change productively and handle other essential tasks as assigned
  • Operate autonomously, with authority and gravitas
  • Able to identify new capabilities for development of technical capability, marketing material and value propositions
  • In conjunction with other members of the team, take responsibility for meeting agreed business and project targets, controls costs in achieving to achieve targets, managing risks effectively and delivering all agreed outputs, within the agreed economics and safety regulatory frameworks

 

Qualifications:

  • Association of Project Management – Full Member
  • Degree level education in a Business/Finance/Engineering discipline
  • Earned Value Foundation (APMG)

 

Knowledge / Skills / Behaviours:

  • 10 + years total industry, Finance or related experience, ideally including 5 + years consultancy experience
  • Experience of full EVM deployment across multi-million £ contracts
  • Will have led implementation of Project Control systems in Client organisations, addressing People, Process and toolset issues
  • Expertise in multiple Project Control disciplines.
  • Practical ability to utilise critical project management concepts (e.g. EVM, project planning, risk analysis, configuration management
  • Experienced in developing and delivering technical training i.e. EVM, Risk Management, Planning & Project Controls
  • Demonstrable ability to establish and maintain effective relationships and partnerships with key stakeholders
  • Demonstrable capability of influencing outcomes to deliver project objectives in a complex cross-functional environment
  • A thorough grasp of basic contract terms and conditions and financial issues (budgets, profit and loss accountability, project cost behaviours etc.)
  • Experience and knowledge of planning tools MS Project and Oracle Primavera Software
  • Experience and knowledge of Tilos or similar Time Distance Chart tools
  • Experience and knowledge PertMaster or similar risk software solutions
  • Well organised and methodical
  • Positive and enthusiastic approach
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, facilitation and presentation skills
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Flexibility and tenacity to be able to achieve project objectives and overcome barriers to progress
