Senior Planner (Lead) - Nationwide

The Senior Planner is a technical specialist role requiring experience of Planning best practice and knowledge of Planning tools and techniques. The Senior Planner will have functional line management duties guiding and influencing staff, both inside and outside the Planning team, to implement Planning working practices appropriate to the Programme in line with industry and company standards.

The role is high profile and both inward and outward facing; undertaking complex planning activity whilst assisting the development of the Project Team through coaching, mentoring and knowledge transfer.

The Senior Planner will produce robust and detailed programmes for all works associated with the lifecycle phases of the projects, liaising with the Project Manager (PM) and the project or programme team to ensure that the programme keeps abreast of any changes. The Senior Planner will also be responsible for producing detailed trackers that can substantiate progress measurements on a regular basis and ensuring that the programme is communicated effectively both internally and externally.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • As part of the Planning/project team build, optimise and implement planning and programmes (including resources, outages, consents and way leaves) in conjunction with interested parties to deliver the work
  • When necessary produce detailed trackers to be used to collect and report progress made on a weekly/monthly basis
  • Work with the Planning Manager and the planning team to develop a planning culture throughout the business units and projects
  • Able to execute contracts such as the NEC ECC3 and its requirements with regard to time.
  • In accordance with our certification to the standards ISO 18001, ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 14001 each employee will comply with and contribute to the effective implementation of the current Rhead Group Ltd:- Health and Safety Policy, Quality Policy and Environmental Policy
  • Define Planning management policies, procedures and the standards required to deliver projects
  • Take ownership of project handover meetings engaging the Bid team, Project Manager and QS.
  • Work closely with the Project Manager and Project QS to maximise the potential of each project, attend site meetings when necessary to discuss progress and update the project plan together with reporting back on any knock-on effects to the business unit
  • Represent the business at client meetings
  • Work with the Head of Department to ensure that the planning function interfaces effectively with the other departments
    Support programme integration, governance, formats, plan optimisation, and planning best practices
  • Gather benchmarking information to aid the Value For Money (VFM) assessment on each project
  • In conjunction with the Risk Management and Project Manager, proactively input into the risk, issue and opportunity register for assigned projects
  • Keep abreast of current and new planning techniques, technologies and initiatives which may have a benefit for the business
  • Maintain ongoing development and delivery of a co-ordinated change agenda for business improvement
    Monitor and control programme compliance in respect of our contractual obligations
  • Undertake additional tasks / responsibilities as directed by Line Manager
  • In conjunction with other members of the team, take responsibility for meeting agreed business and project targets, controls costs in achieving to achieve targets, managing risks effectively and delivering all agreed outputs, within the agreed economics and safety regulatory frameworks
  • Contributing to the identification and formulation of strategic objectives
  • Be responsible for the functional line management of a number of the project controls team including employee training and development, employee appraisals, routine HR matters, managing timebookings and communications.


Qualifications:

  • Association for Project Management (APM) – Full Member with active CPD
  • Degree level education in a Business/Finance/Engineering discipline is preferable
  • Earned Value Management Foundation (APMG)


Knowledge / Skills / Behaviours:

  • More than 5 years’ experience of creating large and/or complex schedules for start-up programmes/projects
  • Identifying and maintaining complex dependencies within programme/project schedules
  • Integration of master schedule to programme/project schedules
  • Rollup of cross-project resources to consolidated resource plans
  • Troubleshooting of problems resulting from schedule content or planning tool limitations
  • Demonstrable experience of using Earned Value Management Systems
  • Advanced Primavera (P6) skills
  • Presentation, facilitation, communication and influencing skills
